As any prominent awards ceremony approaches, one notices a demand for the addition fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of followers who have specialized interests.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely that year
- Another creative title received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
- Just some puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent small games, however the design behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles globally continuing this trend for many years.
The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.
Restating the point, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
